Deux-Montagnes, June 22, 2020 – With the heat felt over the past few days, drinking water consumption has increased of more than 52% compared to the daily average. The City calls on the collaboration of citizens for an eco-responsible use of drinking water and asks to avoid its unnecessary use (washing vehicles, driveways, etc.).
Lawn watering – reminder of the regulation
The lawn watering regulations are included inQuality of Life Regulation No. 1392, Section 6 – Article 6.31 (page 24). The by-law stipulates that it is allowed to water the lawns (water from the municipal aqueduct) if it does not rain, provided that the watering is carried out using a sprinkler operated mechanically or manually, which lasts no more than (60) minutes, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays only.
Over the next few days, municipal inspectors and officers from the Lac des Deux-Montagnes police station will be particularly vigilant in order to ensure compliance with the lawn watering regulations. Any violation of the regulations makes the offender liable to a minimum fine of $200 if he is a person and $400 if he is a legal person.
Trick for watering plants
In order to reduce the amount of water when watering flowers and vegetable gardens, citizens are invited to favor hand watering and water early in the morning or in the evening. When watered in daylight, almost 50% of the water evaporates due to heat rather than entering the soil.
The City of Deux-Montagnes thanks its citizens in advance for their collaboration in order to preserve drinking water, this precious resource.
