Petition for the construction of a dyke

The City of Deux-Montagnes would like to obtain the support of its citizens in order to get the authorization from the Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada to install a dyke on the shores of Lac des Deux-Montagnes.

For several weeks, Mr. Denis Martin, Mayor of Deux-Montagnes has launched a petition for the construction of this dyke after the floods happened last spring 2017.

Here is the wording of the petition for the installation of a dyke in Deux-Montagnes.

• Considering the floods that affected a large number of citizens in Deux-Montagnes in April and May 2017;

• Considering the major consequences suffered by the victims;

• Considering that municipal infrastructure has been put at risk;

• Considering that global warming could increase the frequency of this type flood;

 • Considering that putting into place a dyke, as the one set up in the neighboring city of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac would have greatly reduced the impacts of the floods;

• Considering that such a dyke has been built in the neighboring city of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac and has proved its effectiveness;

• We, the undersigned, call upon the Government of Quebec to work with the Government of Canada and the City of Deux-Montagnes to install a dyke on the shores of Lac des Deux-Montagnes in an area that remains to be defined.

• Ensure that all necessary approvals are obtained from the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Change.

• To endorse the majority of the costs associated with the building of this dyke.

The petition is available in hard copy only.

Citizens interested in signing this petition must present themselves at the Deux-Montagnes City Hall, located at 803 Oka Road, between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday and from 8:30 am to noon on Friday. Please note that our offices are closed between noon and 1 pm everyday.

The petition will be present to the Government of Quebec in a few weeks.
