Library celebrates 40 years of outstanding service

Deux-Montagnes, March 22, 2018 – A celebration on Saturday, March 17, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Deux-Montagnes Library, including a theatrical production, Le Bibliothécaire (“The Librarian”), presented before the official ceremony, was greatly appreciated by some 80 guests present for the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Denis Martin praised the entire Deux-Montagnes community for its involvement in the library and its success. “From modest beginnings, the Deux-Montagnes Library has continually grown and adapted to meet the needs of the public it serves. This priceless asset’s excellence is due unquestionably to its many users, volunteers, and employees – particularly, back in 1978, to one of the Deux Montagnes Library’s earliest chief librarians, Annette Savoie.”

During this 40th anniversary year, a special program has been created for Deux-Montagnes residents, in addition to regular library activities. Scheduled events that are sure to delight visitors of all ages include pet therapy for children, technology activities, evening film screenings, and shows for family audiences. New services available in 2018 include online courses in languages, office technology, music, and other subjects on the Toutapprendre.com platform (tablets that can be borrowed for use on library premises). During the month of March, library members also have the chance to win an iPad by entering a contest on the library website. Members can cancel late-return fines as well by making donations of non-perishable goods to the Dépannage Saint-Agapit food bank.

To fulfill its mission as a place for the personal, social, and intellectual development of residents, the Deux-Montagnes Library continues to grow and continually upgrade its services. The library facilities are a one-stop resource where the entire community can meet their information, education, culture, and leisure needs.

Come and enjoy all the great services your library has to offer…and don’t forget to visit the library’s beautiful outdoor terrace this summer.
