Deux-Montagnes, May 7, 2020 – The City of Deux-Montagnes would like to clarify certain elements concerning the collection of dead leaves scheduled for May 25 which could take place over two days. Also, considering that many citizens have already piled their dead leaves in plastic bags, they will be exceptionally picked up by our supplier during this collection. Additional handling will be done to ensure that the leaves contained in these bags are properly composted.
PLEASE NOTE: it is important to know that plastic bags will no longer be authorized in Deux-Montagnes and consequently, they will not be collected in the future leaf collections.
How to dispose of dead leaves?
- Leaves should be stacked in paper bags designed for yard waste purposes. These must be deposited in the street by 7:00 p.m. the day before this special leaf collection, or no later than 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the collection.
- The City also encourages its citizens to use their brown bin to dispose of dead leaves and other green residues: excess grass, roots, potting soil (do not fill the container with soil, which would make it too heavy and damage it during mechanical collection), plants, small branches, shavings, bark, conifer needles, etc. The City reminds you that the collection of organic materials takes place every Monday.
- Citizens can practice ‘’ leaf cycling ’’. Learn more about this method, which involves mowing dead leaves and leaving them on the ground rather than raking them with a rake: https://www.recyc-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/citoyens/matieres-organiques/herbicyclage
