Deux-Montagnes, September 2, 2020 – Fall season is already here and the City is reminding its citizens that plastic bags are now FORBIDDEN for the collection of dead leaves. In fact, only paper bags for yard waste will be collected during the collections scheduled on Fridays from October 23 to November 20.
Three ways of disposing of dead leaves:
- Leaves must be stacked in paper bags for yard waste and deposited at the curb starting at 7 p.m. the day before leaf collection, or no later than 7 a.m. on the morning of collection.
- The City also encourages its citizens to use their brown bin to dispose of dead leaves and other green residues such as excess grass, roots, plants, small branches, shavings, conifer needle bark. Please note! Do not fill the brown bin with soil or compost, as this would make it too heavy and damage it during mechanical collection. The collection of organic waste takes place every Monday; until 30 November and every other week thereafter.
- Citizens may practice leaf cycling (feuillicyclage). Learn more about this method, which consists of mowing dead leaves and leaving them on the ground rather than scraping them or pick up with a rake : https://www.recyc-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/citoyens/matieres-organiques/herbicyclage
For more information on the different collections, consult the 2020 Municipal Calendar available online.
