Flood: **Information session ** for the victims
NEW LOCATION: The Ministry of Public Safety (ministère de la Sécurité publique) will hold an information session for citizens of Deux-Montagnes on MAY 17th AT 7:30 pm , ST-AGAPIT CHURCH, 1002 Oka Road.
ALSO on May 18th, at 9 am at the City hall , the representatives of the Ministry of Public Safety will be available to assist citizens to filling in the claim forms.

There is a lot of work and procedures for the victims to return at home after several days of evacuation. Here is what the flood victims must do from now on.
The City of Deux-Montagnes has produced this action plan for a crisis exit (fact sheet 1) for the citizens, to help them in the returning at home steps by steps.

Flood: what should we do after?

As a result of heavy rains and flooding, the Ministry of Public Safety produced a leaflet about valuable advice and follow-up instructions for cleaning residences.This leaflet is also available at the Legion’s Hall as the Accommodation Center located at 141 Grand-Moulin in Deux-Montagnes and Deux-Montagnes City Hall at 803 chemin d’Oka.

Flood: flood rate is decreasing

According to flood ratings, the floodwaters reached 24.54 meters (data observed at 8 am today at Lac des Deux-Montagnes). The level has dropped 0.24 meters (24 cm) since Monday May 8th. As a reminder, the minimum flood threshold is 23.36 meters.
The Accommodation Center is always open at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall at 141 Grand-Moulin Road. The employees of the Red Cross as well as the City of Deux-Montagnes employees and the many volunteers are there to welcome you.To see the chart of flood rate levels for the last week click here.
Floods- A momentum of solidarity

In collaboration with the City of Deux-Montagnes, Dépannage St-Agapit has created a special fund to help the victims of Deux-Montagnes.
Partners such as IGA Sénécal & Filles and Giant Tiger are already collecting cash donations to help flood victims in Deux-Montagnes.
Tax receipts may be issued for donations of $ 10 or more.

Water flood: Update on the financial assistance Program

The Government of Quebec has posted on the Public Safety website, the announcement of a financial assistance program offered to the victims affected by the floods that have occurred since the beginning of April. The City of Deux-Montagnes was designated as part of the affected cities.

The Canadian Armed Forces

The Canadian Armed Forces arrive at Deux-Montagnes. At the express request of Denis Martin, Mayor of Deux-Montagnes, the Canadian Armed Forces agreed to move troops to assist our City.
The Canadian Armed Forces is present in the field for priority emergency operations and to protect essential infrastructures critical to the community’s needs, in particular securing the Larry Cool pumping station.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces may leave the City of Deux-Montagnes at any time based on priorities that may arise in other regions of Québec.
Update on water floods

The City of Deux-Montagnes has been closely monitoring the water level for several days. According to flood ratings, the flood waters now reach 24.78 meters (data observed at 10 am this morning at Lac des Deux-Montagnes). The weather forecast predicts that the flood waters will reach its highest level today, and this until tomorrow morning. Thereafter, the level will decrease. The situation could still by concerning.
All of our Public Works and Fire Department’s teams are presently deployed, as well as the presence of Sécurité civile du Québec.
More than a hundred residents from 9th Avenue to the 15th had to be evacuated in addition to those on Lakebreeze Street and Boulevard du Lac.
A shelter center is open at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall at 141, Chemin du Grand-Moulin, and psychological support is also available for disaster victims at this center.
In case of immediate assistance, call 911 and firefighters can help you evacuate your home.
Please note that tap water is perfectly consumable (non-contaminated).

Water rise – emergency situation

The city of Deux-Montagnes has been in emergency position for several days. All Public Works and Fire Department teams are deployed. La sécurité civile is also involved. Several residents had to be evacuated: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th 13th and 14th avenues more Lakebreeze street and Boulevard du Lac. A accomodation Center is open at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall at 141, Chemin Grand-Moulin.
In case of immediate assistance, call 911 and firefighters can help you evacuate.Please note that the drinking water is perfectly consumable ( non- contaminated).

Follow-up on the increase in water levels
2017-05-04
Since April 5, municipal authorities have been monitoring the two bodies of water that surround Deux-Montagnes. The City has implemented preventive and corrective measures:
- Installation of additional pumps at pumping stations
- Installation of sandbags in the backyards of certain residences and on certain streets
- Sand mounds have been set up behind some of the sandbag dikes
The City’s authorities remain in constant contact with the Committee on Civil Security in order to provide citizens with the best information on the situation across Quebec.
According to flood ratings, the flood waters (0/20 years), set at 24.26 metres for Lac des Deux-Montagnes, have been slightly surpassed today, reaching a level of 24.37 metres (data observed at 10:00 am today at Lac des Deux-Montagnes).
With the precipitation forecast for the next few days (May 5-7), the situation could still be a cause for great concern.
The City of Deux-Montagnes Fire and Public Works Departments are hard at work 24 hours a day to better control the situation.
Citizens who may eventually require evacuation will be notified by the Fire Department and may be accommodated in a municipal building provided for this purpose with the assistance of the Red Cross.

Financial assistance for flood victims

The Government of Quebec has posted on the Ministère de la Sécurité publique website the announcement of a financial assistance program for victims affected by the floods that occurred between April 5th and 18th, 2017. The City of Deux-Mountagnes was designated as part of the affected cities. The Ministère de la Sécurité publique will hold information sessions.
Ministère de la Sécurité publique will organize an information session for the citizens of Deux-Montagnes, on April 27, 2017 at the Pointe-Calumet Community Center, located at 190, 41e Avenue at 7:30 pm.
