Adoption of the 2014 budget

At the special meeting of the Council held on January 16th, the 2014 Budget and three-year Capital Plan were adopted.

The 2014 budget is balanced and respectful of the citizens’ ability to pay.  Thanks to the efforts and dedication of elected officials and City employees, the average increase in the tax rate for City of Deux-Montagnes taxpayers is below 2 %, as a result of a savings of $500,000 in operating expenses. The impact on the average tax bill has resulted in a 1.92% increase the  average homeowner.

With respect to servicing the debt, note that repayment of the capital will increase to $3.6 million in 2014, while capital acquisitions will be around $2.4 million. The plan is to cut $10 million of the total debt over the next 5 years without compromising the investments required for the renewal of our infrastructure.
