2,7 Million $ for the rehabilitation of our infrastructure

Québec-Municipalities Infrastructure Program

The City of Deux-Montagnes will receive a maximum government funding of $2,667,600 for the rehabilitation of several drinking and sewage water mains in the city. This assistance is provided under the Quebec Municipalities Infrastructure Program (PIQM).

More specifically, the project includes infrastructure work for the trenchless rehabilitation of drinking water mains under Gagnon, Henri-Dunant and Sunny Side Streets as well as under 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th,10th, 11th and 19th Avenues. It also plans for the trenchless rehabilitation of drinking and sewage water mains under 12th Avenue. Upon the completion of this work, water mains on more than 5.2 kilometers of streets will be renewed in the City of Deux-Montagnes.
“I am very pleased with the financial support that is being offered today to the City of Deux-Montagnes.Our government recognizes the need to renew and replace drinking water, sewage and storm sewer infrastructures in communities throughout Quebec. That’s why, in partnership with municipalities, we want to ensure that citizens enjoy sustainable and quality public services for present and future generations to come,” stated Deputy Daniel Goyer.

“Every Quebecer should have access to quality public services. This is why my government is committed to providing the necessary support to municipalities to help them renew and develop their infrastructures,” indicated Minister Sylvain Gaudreault.
The completion of this project requires a maximum government funding of $2,667,600 under section 1.5 of the PIQM. With a total budget of $462 million dollars, this PIQM program component not only helps to ensure infrastructure sustainability but also enhances the quality of life of the population, and creates jobs in all regions of Quebec.

“The City of Deux-Montagnes has invested heavily in maintenance and rehabilitation in its infrastructures in recent years, whether for upgrading or compliance with different standards in effect. In 2013 we will work on rehabilitating aqueducts on 14 streets, for a total of 5.2 km of water mains, which represents 7 % of our entire network. This work is essential, because it will help extend the useful life of drinking water mains, eliminate water leaks and improve water quality. We are very pleased to have funding from the government for the completion of this major work,” maintained the Mayor of Deux-Montagnes, M. Marc Lauzon.

About the Quebec Infrastructure Plan (PQI)
The support of the Quebec government for the project is part of the Quebec Infrastructure Plan (PQI) 2013-2023 that was made public in April of this year. Remember that this ten-year plan will eventually total 8.1 B$ in investments for municipal infrastructures. It will have a major economic impact throughout Quebec, with almost 60,000 jobs on average created or maintained each year.
The creation of the Quebec Infrastructure Plan (PQI) also represents a shift in how to invest and manage public infrastructures. This new approach will enable needs to be prospectively assessed, based on the priorities of Quebecers, to carefully weigh the costs associated with them, and to help them make clear choices.
