ALERT MESSAGE : RISE IN THE WATER LEVEL – THE CITY OF DEUX-MONTAGNES INVITES CITIZENS TO VIGILANCE

Deux-Montagnes, April 18, 2019 – The city of Deux-Montagnes invites citizens located in the flood zone to vigilance over the next few days.

Rainfall between 50 and 80 mm expected over the weekend will be added to the water resulting from the spring thaw of significant snow cover to the north. The coming rise in the water level could be high in the next days.

The City of Deux-Montagnes works closely with theSécurité civile du Québec. We are diligently following the evolution of the rise in the water level.

There is a great deal of uncertainty in the forecasts provided by the Quebec Dam Management, Hydro Quebec, Hydro Météo and the Direction of Hydrology Expertise.

The information suggests a peak of 8,000 to 8,500 m3 / s at the Carillon dam over the next few days. The level of Deux Montagnes Lake could then rise near or even beyond 24 meters (average flood threshold).

This is why the City of Deux-Montagnes yesterday obtained permission from the Ministry of the Environment to install a temporary dike made of waterproof concrete blocks using a flexible polyethylene membrane. This preventive work should help protect the City during the flood of the coming days.
