The awards ceremony for the 2016 Fleurir Deux‑Montagnes competition took place on the evening of September 17, 2016 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. This year marks the 29th annual edition of the competition…and it’s still a popular favourite.
The 29th Annual Edition of the Fleurir Deux-Montagnes competition
The event is a joint initiative of the city’s horticulture department and the mayor’s office. During the ceremony, city councillors were on hand, proud to present awards to the winners in each district.
All residences in Deux-Montagnes are automatically entered in the competition. During the summer of 2016, residents were visited by members of the selection committee, comprised of horticultural experts and regular citizens, who combed the streets in search of the most beautiful Deux-Montagnes residential landscapes.
The assessment criteria were: variety and originality, respect for the environment, infrastructure integration, the overall visual effect of the landscaping, and how the plants are showcased.
During the ceremony, awards were distributed to the first-, second-, and third-place winners in each district. One recipient was also chosen from each of the two special award categories, Green Garden and Horticulturists’ Pick, for a total of 20 winners.
Margaret Lavallée, city councillor for the Golf District, who served as acting mayor for the awards ceremony said, “We’re very fortunate to have such a dedicated, professional selection committee. The success of the Fleurir Deux‑Montagnes competition is largely due to their generous efforts.”
The competition’s organizing committee extended sincere congratulations to the winners and thanked local partners for their generous support. The City of Deux-Montagnes invites all residents to participate in next year’s edition of the Fleurir Deux-Montagnes competition!
